Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ:

Q: WHAT CAMERAS DO YOU USE?

A: We use professional DSLR cameras, coupled with several top of the range professional lenses, and a host of lighting gear.

Q: DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

A: Yes. We carry comprehensive liability insurance, though can thankfully say that we’ve never needed it!

Q: HOW SOON DO WE NEED TO BOOK OUR DATE?

A: If your date is available in our diary we suggest booking as soon as possible, we only book one wedding per day and we cannot hold or pencil a date for a client without an official booking. We regularly take bookings up to 3 years in advance.

Q: HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED AT THIS WEDDING VENUE BEFORE?

A: The answer is often yes, but we can talk about why it doesn’t make a significant difference when we meet. We always either pre-visit a place that’s new to us or do our research thoroughly where a visit isn’t possible usually due to distance.

Q: DO YOU OFFER OFF-SEASON AND WEEKDAY DISCOUNTS?

A: Sometimes we have discounted prices depending on our schedules and availability.

Q: WE HAVE HAD TO MOVE OUR WEDDING DATE/VENUE! CAN WE STILL KEEP YOU AS OUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

A: As long as the logistics of the new venue do not pose undue complications, and/or the new date is still available, of course!

Q: HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?

A: Once you are happy to proceed with us as your wedding photographer, We will send you a contract and invoice for a booking fee. On receipt of the booking fee and signed contract (online digital process these days), your wedding date will be firmly booked.

Q: CAN WE PAY PART BEFORE AND PART AFTER THE WEDDING?

A: All payment must be received in full before the date. But you can pay in instalments if you wish, all payments are documented and receipted so we all know the status of the payments and outstanding totals.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE BOOKING?

A: We’ll then start pre wedding consultations leading up to the day. Further, if included in your package or an additional extra, a date is arranged for the pre wedding/engagement session. This is also an opportunity for us to get to know a bit more about you.

Q: DO YOU OFFER VIDEO SERVICES AS WELL?

A: We do indeed offer video services and examples can be found in the Videography section of our website.

Q: DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR TRAVEL AND HOTEL ACCOMMODATION?

A: Yes. If the location is over 1.5hrs drive from Portsmouth, if there is excessive travel between getting ready venues, if photography is expected to start quite early, also if the event finishes at unsuitable hours, and is further than an 1.5 hours drive from Portsmouth, then reasonable overnight accommodation will be charged at cost. We are very upfront with these costs and usually agreed upon when booking, so don’t expect any hidden charges to appear.

Q: WHAT TIME WILL YOU BE ARRIVING ON THE DAY?

A: We time ourselves that our getting ready packages start 2hrs before ceremony time depending on travelling time from preparation locations and ceremony venue. We usually start 1hr-40mins before the ceremony if coverage starts at the ceremony package.

Q: HOW LONG WILL YOU STAY WITH US ON OUR WEDDING DAY?

A: We start as agreed and will stay until usually just after the first dance. If your package includes unlimited coverage you can decide upon the coverage you wish and this is usually discussed before hand during our venue meeting.

Q: IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A SECOND SHOOTER ON THE DAY?

A: While a single photographer can capture your day, we strongly advise having a second shooter to ensure no incredible moments are missed. We only work as 2 photographers, 2 videographers or 1 photographer, 1 videographer. While one focuses on the father of the bride’s speech for example, the other can focus on reactions from the bride or guests, thus creating a more compelling story of your day. Further while I’m primarily a photojournalist, and will quietly be candidly capturing moments and people, the second photographer will be doing a bit more of regular and formal photography, and this means you’ll end up with an amazing collection of different images to choose from.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

A. In many cultures, rain on your wedding day is considered lucky - in our whole time in the profession we have only encountered a fully rained off day 3 times in 10 years. I usually carry a white umbrella with me and shots in light rain, overcast and stormy weather actually make for beautiful, romantic images. If you prefer not to expose yourselves to the elements, we can always scope out a backup location. We will brave the weather even if you aren’t feeling brave.

Q: HELP! WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG TO LEAVE IN OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE GROUP PHOTOS THAT WE WANT!

A: Not a problem! There are some creative wedding photographers who now refuse to shoot group shots, though you will be pleased to hear that we are not one of them! I am happy to advise and be as involved as you wish in planning the schedule for the day. I generally advise leaving at least 3-4 minutes per group. We have a generic formal shot list that can assist with choosing your own list for your day. We usually suggest keeping the formal shot list to a minimum (preferably no more than 10 shots). Any longer and we will run out of time to get the relaxed and creative shots you’ve chosen us for. We will ask that one or two guests are designated as ‘Photo Monitors’ to help gather the guests together.

Q HOW MANY PHOTOGRAPHS WILL YOU TAKE OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY? HOW MANY PHOTOGRAPHS WILL WE EVENTUALLY SEE?

A: On an average wedding we take close to 3000 photos. Don’t worry you won’t get this many, we take natural photos so snap away to capture the special looks or moments, but we have been known to give close to 800 images for you to view.

Q: DO YOU REQUIRE A MEAL ON THE DAY?

A: We are happy to cater for ourselves and like to spend the meal time looking for hidden and creative locations at your venue. If you wish to offer us food then we will graciously accept.

Q. HOW DO WE GET TO SEE OUR IMAGES?

We aim to have your wedding images uploaded to a secure password protected area of our website within six weeks of your big day, but at busy times of year this can be longer. Go to our website, enter your link and browse your gallery – it’s that simple. we sometimes select a few images for our blog as an appetiser.

Q: WILL THE IMAGES BE EDITED BEFORE PRESENTATION?

A: All images are individually assessed for colour and tone, and edited appropriately. Blemishes and distractions are then taken care of before presentation. If albums are ordered, a little more editing will go into the selected images.

Q: IS THERE AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE?

A: No. All reasonable editing is carried out on a complimentary basis. Note however that digital manipulation, which is very different from editing, will come at an additional charge.

Q: WILL WE RECEIVE THE HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES?

A: Absolutely. All packages come complete with all the images on a disc or USB in a high-quality digital format at full resolution, these are also sent via a download link. You may make as many prints from the disc or USB and make as many copies of the photographs as you like. It’s also useful to know that you’re free to do whatever you want with the photos and will be able to email these images to your guests, friends and family.

Q: WE WOULD LIKE TO ORDER PRODUCTS THAT WEREN’T INCLUDED IN OUR PACKAGE – ARE WE ABLE TO ADD THESE ON AFTERWARDS?

A: Of course. we understand that budgets are not infinite and that it might not always be possible to commit funds to all the products that you might want. Product prices change, but we keep all images backed up, so even if you decide to order a wedding album for your wedding anniversary (very neatly, the 1st anniversary is paper…), this will still be possible.

Q: HOW MANY IMAGES MAKE A GREAT STORYBOOK ALBUM?

A: We normally suggest to choose between 60-80 pictures for the standard 30-page album. However, if you need more images, it may be advisable to increase the album page count, or to make a second album.

Q: WHO DECIDES WHICH IMAGES WILL APPEAR IN THE ALBUM?

A: You do! It’s such a subjective process and whilst we could design you a beautiful album it is impossible to know the photos that are most special to you.

Q: HOW LONG WILL OUR ALBUM TAKE TO ARRIVE?

A: Once your draft album is confirmed and officially signed off as an approved design, the album artwork is sent to Italy where it is hand made. This process we quote takes 6 weeks and your album is sent to us first to give its final check before we send out to you.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE ILL?

A: The million dollar question. We have never once phoned in sick on the day of a shoot. It is unthinkable. In truth we would have to be admitted to hospital for us not to turn up to your wedding!!! When we were pregnant with our daughter we scheduled a replacement photographer to replace the heavily pregnant one of us. This is the only time we have ever had to do so. We are members of a emergency cover professional photographer group who we could ask to step in if the worst happens.

Q: WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS?

A: Under UK law, specifically the The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, it is the photographer who will own copyright on any photos he/she has taken. However that doesn’t mean that we will use the images without your consent. Client confidentiality is absolutely crucial to our business and should you wish to keep your wedding photographs private and have a non-disclosure agreement in place, then naturally we will be more than happy to accommodate.
